Day 2 of Chemo

After a drug induced grammatical shit show of a post last night, Andy has asked me to write his post for this morning. The first Chemo drug Ifosfamide was given last night at 10pm and Andy has done exceptionally well. Only a little bit of nausea, but over all an uneventful evening which means he got a good amount of rest! Today Andy will receive Carboplatin, the second Chemo drug.

After waking up all bright eyed and bushy tailed...Andy informed the nursing staff he was heading down for a work out. The look on their faces was PRICELESS! I am not sure who I should be more concerned about....Andy and his health or the mental well being of the nursing staff here after trying to care for him. Once Andy arrived at the gym downstairs he was greeted by an overweight man who denied him access to the gym without a doctor's approval. Andy thoroughly "hate fucked" him with his eyes and angrily went on his way. If there is one way to get to Andy, it is to interfere with his ability to be productive (ie work out!).

It is very obvious that Andy's "give a fuck meter" is still not broken. After sneaking out of the hospital to get some Starbucks, Andy was very frustrated to get an improperly heated egg white and feta spinach wrap. What further complicated the situation was Andy's inability to get online via a google review and forewarn future customers of this particular Starbuck's ineptness! I have to admit.....the entire process had me rolling. This man is battling cancer and all he is upset about is not being able to advise the next customer about their potential cold egg breakfast wrap. Golden!! Our ability to laugh through these times has been the best medicine.

I have to say that I feel honored to get to experience this war Andy is battling from the battlefield with a front row seat. His humor, strong will, and over all heart of gold make him such an inspiration to watch. This chemo regimen is supposed to take 5 days in the hospital and when asked this morning what Andy's goal is for the day, he replied "to get out of here in 4 days instead of 5".  For those of you who know and love Andy, it should be no surprise that he intends to push all limits beyond the norm. That is the kind of warrior he is. And that my friends, is why he will WIN this war!

Below is a picture of Andy's midnight prednisone binge which included Spaghetti and meat sauce with a side of chicken tenders. His face says it all!

Cheers,
Alex
