Alex here with the post chemo update. Andy was discharged from the hospital late Saturday night. While he was pretty beat down and tired he was hell bent on getting things done this weekend. Since his POD form Florida was delivered the day he was admitted we decided to try to get his stuff moved in this weekend....yes a big goal seeing as he was just discharged after 5 days of chemo! We had the help of two dear friends Sunday move all the big furniture in and set things up. Times like this really let you know who your true friends are and I will say we are surrounded by some pretty awesome people!
After a day of pushing it way to hard Andy has had a pretty hard go of it. The compounding effects of chemo are running their toll on our warrior. Mornings are the worst and for a retired Marine who is used to getting up and accomplishing more in the mornings than what most people accomplish all day...this is very hard on him. Aside from the nausea, mouth and throat sores are another side effect of the chemo. These two things coupled together can really ruin a person's appetite. Last night I made some home made chicken noodle soup for Andy and was comforted in knowing the nourishment helped.
In the next days Andy can use more of the positive energy from those around him in addition to patience as he is very frustrated he is unable to go 90 to nothing like he normally does. He is not the type of person, as most of you know, that allows things to slow him down but in these circumstances the chemo regime they have him on would slow down a freight train! Andy still has the "fuck you cancer" attitude and is still his driven, passionate, strong self. Last night we enjoyed the company of each other while watching Mission Impossible and listening to a thunder storm outside. All in all, not a bad life!
We will keep everyone updated and please keep up the positive words, texts, posts....and oh yeah cookie cakes!! ( that was the best...YUM) They help more than you know.
Cheers,
Alex
