After arriving with some Chipotle for Andy's dinner I could tell the frustration on Andy's face. He thought he would be getting discharged tomorrow morning but has since learned he will not be getting out till Wednesday. The post below is a hodge podge of his own thoughts and words though he asked me to post on his behalf...
Upon waking up in a drug induced haze this morning Andy spoke to Dr. Richey, his oncologist, about what the remainder of his treatment looked like. After learning that he would have to be on Chemo until Tuesday morning, and then would have another rescue drug for an additional 12 hours after that, he chose to find comfort in sleep and his pillow to pass the day.
Dragging around "Bitching Betty", the IV pump, isn't exactly conducive to working out. In fact, I think that is one of Andy's nemesis because it is one of the few ways that people can identify him as a patient in the hospital. He otherwise just looks like a man who has not brushed his hair. Haha! And in reality, I think that is what Andy hates the most....is being looked at like a patient instead of being treated like nothing is wrong.
So rather than be "productive" as Andy normally loves to be, he was confined to his hospital bed where he chose to keep the medicine and pain killers coming to help him sleep the day away. I hate seeing my warrior like this but he is human! He doesn't want pity. He doesn't want anything more than for this to go away. I have no doubt after he gets discharged he will be back to playing golf, working out, organizing our garage and playing with the dogs.
After eating a little bit of the Chipotle I brought for dinner, Andy managed to polish off the mint chocolate chip ice cream pint from last night. Good thing I chose not to throw it at him last night during one of his grumpy sick boy moments! LOL. The next few days are gonna stink for him as he cannot do the things he wants, but I appreciate the physicians being cautious. You can bet the next time he comes for chemo though, he will have the physician stacking his treatments closer together and he will be in the hospital half the time of this stay! That's our boy....pushing the limits when able.
Until next time!
Alex
